This is the horizontal bar on the back of the stitch, and working here pushes the top two loops of the stitch you’re working into forward, for yet another great look! Similar to a Tunisian stitch in form, it’s still worked just one stitch at a time! I first used this stitch in the Sherbet Stripes Tote – another one skein Roll With It Tweed pattern! This stitch inserts the hook behind the left vertical bar of the stitch, and then on through to the back of the fabric. The next hdc variation used is the side split hdc.

This stitch makes up the base of the Cinch Stripes Backpack! You make this one by simply inserting the hook under the horizontal bar in the front of the stitch as well as the usual two top loops. The first one is new to this pattern – I’m calling it the deep hdc. This pattern features a few different ways to use the half double crochet stitch – including a couple of variations I came up with myself – though I wouldn’t be surprised to find they are already out there, I haven’t found them. The Cinch Stripes Backpack is made with just one cake of Red Heart Roll With It Tweed! I love the subtle striping in the colorway I chose, but there are lots of gorgeous ones to choose from, and each will give a different effect! It’s a great worsted/medium weight yarn, and every skein is a little unique.
